The autonomous retrieves historical and artistic heritage of Cehegín (04/01/2010)

The Director General of Planning and Housing, Antonio Navarro, and the mayor of Cehegín, Jose Soria, today visited the facades of architectural interest of the municipality

The Director General of Planning and Housing, Antonio Navarro, accompanied by the mayor of Cehegín, Jose Soria, today visited the historic facades of the Autonomous Community art has been restored in the old part of town.

Specifically, the Ministry of Public Works has funded more than 200,000 euros rehabilitation of six buildings of architectural interest, since it's houses built in the XIX century located in Fortuna Street, Mayor Moreno and Cuesta Cuesta Inn.

According to Navarro, "there have been many landmark buildings facades and old recovered in recent years, thanks to the sensitivity shown by the City Council in preserving the historic status of Cehegín, and regional government support."

The general director and wanted to highlight "the role of municipalities in the region, essential for promoting the policy of preserving the architectural heritage that drives the regional government through the Ministry of Public Works and Planning."

The Cehegín old, declared a Historical Site in 1982, contains numerous examples of traditional architecture of the twelfth to the nineteenth centuries, among which Villar de Felices Palace, the Palace of Jasper, or the House of Fajardo.

The House of Fajardo, recently honored by the Ministry of Public Works in Quality Awards Building, currently houses the headquarters of the Municipal Archaeological Museum, consisting of large number of rooms and archaeological remains of great importance, which explains the history Cehegin and its inhabitants.

New viewpoint on the old round

Moreover, the general director of Planning and Housing recalled that last November was opened to traffic round the old town, a new vial equipped with a pedestrian walkway with gazebo that provides direct access to this iconic area.

The work, which involves an investment of 700,000 euros, was financed by the Ministry by 75 percent, while the City has contributed the remaining 25 percent.

Antonio Navarro said that "it is an action which, on the one hand, improve communications in the municipality, as it provides direct access to all the neighborhoods that comprise the urban core of the town and, by reinforcing the values of this symbolic environment by promoting the revitalization of historic and artistic heritage of the municipality. "
