Cehegín City Council publishes a book that reflects the evolution of the El Coso in recent decades (26/03/2015)

Cehegín City Council has published 'The Coso', a small book of only 50 pages on a journey through the evolution of this ancient neighborhood nestled in the heart of Old Town of the city from the middle years of the twentieth century is made up today.

The publication was presented this morning by Mayor Jose Soria, Councillor for Works and Services, Juan Antonio Chico, and its author, Francisco Ortega Bustamante.

Copies of the publication the project has come to regenerate and give value to the area where the neighborhood settled will be distributed free to the locals next Monday, March 30, at the inauguration of the Garden of El Coso, the same name and that after its demolition in the 80s of last century, it had become degraded and littered lot.

"With this publication we wish to witness the creation of this new space in the heart of our Old Town in what was an example of popular neighborhood of late medieval origins. The 80 and 90 of the twentieth century amounted to this urban space. The abandonment of the population, age and poor construction materials, rain and, above all, the snow caused the ruin of most of the houses, which had to be demolished, "said the mayor of Cehegín.

Jose Soria added that the site left by those houses, "has been transformed into a modern space concept that combines architecture with water and vegetation."

"This book will be a good memory for residents and a good way to understand and know the history of this place," said Councilman Works and Services.

The book includes, as explained by its author, some names, nicknames and trades people who lived in the neighborhood of Coso and streets that existed in its urban layout and subsequent evolution into the current year.

Old photographs in which are some neighbors and other current on developments in the area round the issue.

"This work is aimed at recovering and valuing an anthropological part of deep roots that endure over time as a living example of what I was born, raised, lived and died," said Francisco Ortega.

The project has a total budget of 4.3 million euros, of which the Autonomous Community has contributed 3.5 and the City about 820,000 euros.
