New step in improving the Caco old with design of the rear of the Plaza Vieja (23/12/2014)

The Mayor and Councilman Works and Services inaugurated the Plaza de las Maravillas and have stated that conservation of the Old Town, main reference Cehegín, has been one of the major objectives of the City Council in recent years

Mayor Jose Soria, and Councilman Works and Services, Juan Antonio Chico, inaugurated this morning the Plaza de las Maravillas and works of arrangement and design of the rear of the Old Square in the Old Town of Cehegín.

With this action, the City has taken another step in its policy of conservation and enhancement of vast historic old town, one of the largest in the Region of Murcia.

The area has acted is the result of demolition, years ago, several dilapidated houses that altered the original urban fabric where streets were already desparecidas as the North or the Poet Selgas.

For years, neglect and dirt had invaded this vast area, which has now been regenerated thanks to a performance that has been divided into two phases.

The first phase, held in 2012, was to build a retaining wall to securing housing.

The second phase consisted of removal of debris, landscaping, stone walls conducting and provision of street furniture such as wooden railing, benches and lighting, as explained by the council Works and Services.

The works have been carried out by municipal staff mostly by local company and Juyma Fences SL

The square opened Wonderland takes its name, as clarified Juan Antonio Chico, Missing slope of the same name, which linked the Old Town Square with Main Street below.

In this square is installed on the facade of a house, a source that comes to remembering something that existed in this environment with the font name Wonderland.

Juan Antonio Chico has stated that the City has always set a target in the Old Town make infrastructure to improve the welfare of residents and avoid depopulation of the area and dignify this area "because it is the main driver of the tourist image of the town. "

The council has also appealed to the residents of Cehegín "that inhabit the Old Town and maintain the property in good condition preventing the disappearance of this iconic area."

Meanwhile, Jose Soria has advanced to the next year a new financial aid plan for the recovery of property in the Old Town of Cehegín between national, regional and local administrations including outright grants will be signed so that residents can rehabilitate their homes.

Finally, the mayor said that "the aim and priority of the PP government team since joining the council has been and is to consolidate, enhance and respect Cehegín Old Town, avoiding where possible the demolition of houses to maintain their Tudor and his features ".

Soria added that since 2003 many actions have been taken in this area that have made a substantial financial investment.
