Cehegín adds to the dissemination of Biomass as an economic power, clean and job (13/10/2014)

The European project Proforbiomed Cehegín installed on a stand to raise awareness of the main advantages of using Biomass as an economic, clean energy and job-creating, as explained by the concejalesde Environment and Forests, Maria Dolores Carrasco and Joaquín Marín, respectively, who visited the stand.

Proforbiomed is a strategic project funded by the European Territorial Cooperation Programme MED MED and has a total of 17 partners from France, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Portugal and Spain.

It is led by the Directorate General Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, also participating as a partner the Institute of Development of the Region of Murcia.

It aims to promote the development and use of energy from forest residues in the Mediterranean.

One of his challenges is to create a production of biomass and promote its energy market.

The awareness campaign and dissemination reports on the main advantages of using Biomass grouped into five key messages:

The first is that it helps the conservation of forests.

Biomass (firewood, wood chips and pellets) are obtained by performing the treatments Mount need, such as thinning, pruning or break areas for example.

Biomass is a source of extra income that will fund the jobs that require mountains and thus prevent fires and pests.

Second, it is a green, clean and sustainable renewable energy.

With her emissions greenhouse gases are reduced since the forest pruning residues are burned in boilers generation with emissions controlled by environmental regulations.

The third message is that to be a local resource that is generated in the mountains, contributes to rural development.

Various studies Biomass could generate between 200 and 300 direct jobs in the region of Murcia and many more indirect jobs in disadvantaged and unpopulated areas.

Fourth, Biomass is a local, renewable and profitable resource we have in our forests and we should use, as there are up to 300,000 wooded acres in the Region of Murcia.

Its use would help reduce dependence on foreign energy (oil, gas, etc ...).

And finally, the economic cost savings for the consumer because it is a cheaper energy and stable price.

Its use for heating is 50% to 30% cheaper than diesel and gas respectively, not counting the price increases that are expected with the recent crisis in the Middle East and Ukraine.
