The University of Murcia (UMU) and the City Council of Cehegín yesterday signed, within the framework of cultural events commemorating the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Archaeological Museum of Cehegín, an agreement whereby the educational institution creates a permanent extension University in this municipality.

This was signed by the Mayor of Cehegín, José Rafael Rocamora, and the Rector of the University, José Orihuela

The headquarters of Cehegín, which will be located in the Espacio Joven, will be headed by ceheginero and Professor of Marketing and Market Research Department of the University of Murcia, Salvador Ruiz de Maya.

Some of its functions will be the promotion of culture and awareness of citizens in their practice and enjoyment, cultural and formative activities, the development of knowledge of the culture and society of the environment through the promotion of sociological studies, Anthropological or artistic;

Promotion of training activities and / or analysis of the local reality and its topics of interest, and cultural advice and collaboration in the different spheres of community life, with public and / or private entities of Cehegín and municipalities in the region of Murcia.

The mayor of Cehegín has shown pride in being able to collaborate with the University of Murcia, a "centennial institution that is the closest to citizens."

For his part, the rector Orihuela has referred to the pride that supposes for the educational institution to transmit all this university spirit, while expressing the support of the UMU so that in the headquarters of Cehegínse they develop the maximum possible activities.

After the signing of the Agreement, an inaugural lecture was conducted by José Miguel Noguera Celdrán, Professor and co-director of the Archaeological Park of Molinete in Cartagena.

Finally, those attending this important event were able to enjoy a concert by virtuoso pianist Arturo Abellán Sánchez, who performed works by Isaac Albéniz and Franz Liszt.
