Public Works road safety improvement Cehegín with the expansion of the bridge over the river Argos (21/03/2010)

The performance increase agility in moving between municipalities and Calasparra Cehegín

The Ministry of Public Works and Planning, through the Directorate General of Highways, is carrying out the redevelopment of the bridge over the river Argos, a performance that will improve road safety on the road RM-B20, which connects the municipalities Cehegin and Calasparra.

So far, this bridge had a width of less than five meters.

The action will expand the bridge to ten meters wide.

Thus, the infrastructure will have two lanes, one in each direction, to avoid the bottleneck effect that occurred previously.

As explained by the general director of Roads, Jose Guijarro, these works to be completed over the coming weeks, "are especially relevant, since through this bridge there are more than half a million journeys a year.

Drivers will benefit, because the improvement further increase the fluid flow and increased safety. "

The action includes the construction of a new roundabout, already in service, as it appeared Guijarro, "is one of the most effective tools to reduce accidents."

The rotunda is 50 feet in diameter and is located at the intersection of that road with the RM-B21, which also communicates Cehegín and Calasparra.

Likewise, the works include the construction of new sidewalks three feet wide, and the installation of the corresponding vertical and horizontal signaling and lighting along the whole stretch.

The director general said that "on one hand, it is a work that will improve communications in the Northwest Region and also the expansion of the bridge and the construction of new sidewalks will increase road safety for drivers and pedestrians."

Access round the old town

The Ministry of Public Works and Land Management opened to traffic last November, the new round of access to old Cehegín.

This action, which saw an investment of 700,000 euros, providing direct access to all the neighborhoods that comprise the city's urban core.

The upgrading works also accounted for a pedestrian walkway parallel to the round and the river is a viewpoint Argos.

"Since the Ministry are carried out continuous improvement projects that work together to deliver a better quality of life for both citizens and visitors of the region.

Seek the best safety in the National Road Network in the Region is the main objective of the Ministry, "he said Guijarro.
