Carlos Rodriguez attends the conference "The future of sustainable transport in the Region of Murcia" held in Calasparra (17/01/2010)

This past Friday, 15 Carlos Rodriguez, Member of Socialist Municipal Group Cehegín City Council, participated in the working day under the title: "The future of sustainable transport in the Region of Murcia" held at the House of Culture Calasparra City Council and organized UGT, the Port Authority of Cartagena and the City of Calasparra.

I heard there and raised by different speakers among whom were Nicholas Vincent (Secretary General of UGT - TCM), Jesus Navarro (Mayor of Calasparra), Antonio Jiménez (Secretary General of UGT - Murcia), Adrian Angel Viudes (Chairman of Port Authority) Jose Guillen (Director General of the Public Transport Authority), Diego Peñarrubia (Director of Development of the Government Commission), Maria José Lajarín (President of the Citizens Movement South Coast), Agustin Arrieta ( Director of Science degree European Transport and Logistics at the University Camilo José Cela), Eduardo Hernández (Secretary of Territorial Action and Policy Association of UGT), which was closed by Carmen Maria Sandoval (Director General of Transport and Regional Ports Murcia) and Immaculate Marcos (Secretary of Policy and Institutional Communication TCM - UGT) is of vital importance for the development of the Northwest Region of Murcia, also the River Mula, Cieza and municipalities outside to our region such as La Puebla de Don Frederic and Huescar in Andalusia or Socovos and Ferez in Castilla - La Mancha.

It raised many questions among which the Socialist councilor the following:

The construction of a railway that would unite and Cehegín Caravaca (in Cehegín would be located in the "knot Cayetana) about 2 km from the town of Cehegín and very close to the industrial area of" Water Room "and Hence the new railway to be built in Calasparra and also would join the old station and from there to the Venta del Olivo which built a large train station.

Thus all citizens of the Northwest and the municipalities listed above will have access to AVE.

Madrid distances with greatly reduced, as would be necessary to go to Murcia city and also because it is projected the construction of the Northern Highway, the distance in minutes for example for the indicated ceheginero station would be about 17 minutes .

All this with only building 26.6 km of railway.

Certainly from our perspective it seems a great idea, in the words of Rodriguez, "that would place our region and our city in the center of very important lines of communication as would be the right rail and highway of the North (that would unite us to Valencia) and something very important and also want to emphasize, the recovery of railway line linking Caravaca and therefore Cehegín Murcia and so many other municipalities ... "

"Everything indicated would provide a fundamental economic driver for the region, and the construction of a dry port in Calasparra" Puerto Endo "that focus on freight transport, including our natural wealth, marble and by rail to the port would Cartagena and then to the world .... "

"I think that these days are the cornerstone of the necessary infrastructure.

I invite all the social, political forces and citizens to push in one direction, here the comparisons are meaningless.

Together we can bring to our region of the periphery and a center of a very important economic activity that would benefit everyone, "said.
