The general director of Housing and Architecture, Mark Nogueroles, accompanied by the local mayor, Jose Soria, today visited the rehabilitation of six buildings facades of historical interest located in the old part of town, considered a Historical Site since 1982 and European Cultural Heritage.

Specifically, the Department has supported more than 200,000 euros the restoration of the facades of six buildings of architectural interest, mostly built in the nineteenth century, and situated in the Parador Cuesta Street, Mayor, Fortuna Moreno Cuesta .

According Nogueroles, "have been 18 facades of the old recovered in recent years due to the sensitivity shown by the City Council in preserving the historic site of Cehegín, and the support of the rehabilitation of facades of the regional executive."

The director general said "the role of municipalities in the region, essential to promote the conservation of architectural heritage that drives the regional government, through the types of subsidies from the Ministry of Public Works and Planning."

Rehabilitation of the Old Round

Moreover, the general director also noted that rehabilitation works are carried out on the Round the Old Town, for which 545,358 euros were allocated from the Ministry, which will build the second tranche of that round.

According Nogueroles, "the magnitude of this project forced to make numerous retaining walls to ensure maximum safety, since it is adjacent to the side of the Old Town, which has a steep slope."

Moreover, in this segment will be a great sidewalk slate to serve as lookout at the plain of the Rio Argos and get an excellent pedestrian access to the oldest part of Cehegín.
