Agriculture spends over one million euros in infrastructure to prevent forest fires in the mountains of Cehegín (29/05/2009)

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water has invested EUR 1.300.00 forests Cehegín Township to transform more than 150 hectares in area and adequate fire about 20 miles of trails.

The director general of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, Pablo Fernández, supervised today, along with the mayor of the town the work done within the framework of the Forest Fire Prevention Northwest Murcia.

Also carried out the hydrologic restoration of banks and improving biodiversity in the upper reaches of the River LIC Quípar and electricity and potable water to the Forestry Centre Coto Real.

Fernandez stressed that "while making clear environmental improvement, the plan is an important source of work that contributes to the strengthening of employment in rural areas, and so far has generated about 7,000 wages."

Mountains of great natural wealth

Burete saws, Lavia and Cambron, located in the municipality of Cehegín, "up one of the most amazing forest environments while Murcia unknown geography, which have rich natural landscape," said the CEO.

These hills are spread over 10,000 acres of lush pine forests with a predominance of Carrasco and the frequent presence of holm oaks and oaks and a rich understory of strawberry, honeysuckle and buckthorn, among other shrubs typical of Mediterranean scrub.

These mountains are known at European level by its high density of raptors that nest inside the forest, among which toed eagles, Calzada and Azor.
