The council is preparing a tribute to the Franciscans with a sculpture by Juan José Quirós (04/07/2008)

Cehegín Mayor Jose Soria, and council Francisco Nicolás del Toro and April, yesterday visited the sculptor Juan José Quirós Cartagena where this is working in sculpture that the municipality has commissioned to pay tribute to the Franciscan order.

Ceheginera delegation witnessed the advanced state of development which is the work that will be cast in bronze and placed on a pedestal in the courtyard of the convent of San Esteban, sanctuary of the Virgen de las Maravillas, and according to the Mayor local, Jose Soria "will serve to pay tribute to the Franciscan order that has been so united and is Cehegín centuries."

This tribute is scheduled to take place next October to coincide with the celebration of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

The Franciscan presence in Cehegín dating from the sixteenth century, being custodians, since 1725, the size of the Patron Saint of Cehegín.

The Franciscans, along this time, have left the city including Seraphic School more important in the region.

He served for education, charity, culture and missions.

The order has had on Cehegín characters as important as the Father León Arana, Father Isidore, Adopted Son of Cehegín or Father Alfonso Ortega, Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Murcia.
