A conference will address the devotion of the Order of the Temple of St. Mary Magdalene (24/06/2013)

The vice president of the Association of Building Owners and Categorized Castles of Catalonia, Juan Botey, offer this Friday, June 28th, a conference under the title 'The Templars and devotion to Mary Magdalene', will delve into the history of this military order, his presence in the Northwest Cehegín and Murcia in medieval times and its connection with the name of Santa Maria Magdalena, head of the main temple of the town.

The conference, organized jointly by the departments of Tourism and Culture, will begin at 20:00 pm at the Palace of Fajardo.

The presence of the Knights Templar in Cehegín dates back to 1266, when King Alfonso X 'the Wise' gave the castle of the town, next to Caravaca and Bullas, the Templars, thereby forming one-headed Bailiwick command was under the authority of the master who captained the task of Caravaca.

In the year 1312, due to the dissolution of the Temple, the castle was occupied by the royal troops until in 1344 it was donated to the Order of Santiago who took over much of it as the administration and government of the town of cehegín.
