Culture earmarked 400,000 euros for the restoration of the Church of the Conception of Cehegín (09/07/2011)

The Director General of Cultural Assets, Francisco Giménez, attended today's mass-opening of the Church of the Conception of Cehegín, after the restoration work that took place in the building for four years.

The Mass was presided by the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes.

Work on the temple, declared of Cultural Interest in 1980, involves an investment of over one million euros.

Of this amount, 400,000 euros were provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the remainder by the local council, Cajamurcia Foundation and the Diocese of Cartagena.

Renaissance style and has three naves, divided into five sections and a choir loft at the foot.

The ships interior support columns and Ionic Tuscany in the chancel, which has a painted and covered with a honeycomb cone and stars.

The interior consists of a Moorish wooden deck with an octagonal vault, and has painted inscriptions.
