The Councilor of Agriculture visits the districts to make an assessment of the damages caused by the intense snowfall of yesterday (20/01/2017)

The councilor of Agriculture of the City of Cehegín, Maria Jose Martinez, visited this morning the districts of Canara and Campillo de los Jiménez, to see, first hand, the damage caused in the greenhouses of these areas by the abundant snowfall that had Place in Cehegín yesterday.

In the next days the Edil also plans to visit the rest of affected villages.

In the same has been accompanied by the President of Canaraflor, the technician of this cooperative, the pedanias of Canara and Campillo, as well as by several farmers.

In an initial assessment damage is estimated on surfaces of 12 to 15 hours, although, with the passage of days, they may be greater.

Mainly the crop most affected has been the cut flower, although they have also been harmed, to a lesser extent, fruit like apricot trees.

The average of a family farm can be around 6000 and 8000 m2, and there are some farmers who have lost half of their production.

The Councilor for Agriculture has stated that "from this Government Team will work to ensure that the competent authorities declare the area as catastrophic, and in this way that farmers can obtain aid to be able to carry out their production, which in most The cases will have to start from scratch ".

At the same time, the mayor commented that "soon we will hold meetings with the agricultural union COAG, as well as representatives of Canaraflor, who have lent us their immediate cooperation, so that we collect, in greater detail, data on the damage caused"
