The Archaeological Museum of Cehegín recalls the figure of Emeterio Cuadrado `He detenido' exposure time (17/04/2016)

The Archaeological Museum of Cehegín hosts the exhibition 'The detainee time.

The photographic legacy of Square Emeterio Diaz ', which includes more than 40 images from the personal archive of Murcia engineer, discovered the site of the Cigarralejo Mula to which he devoted 40 years of his life.

The exhibition could be seen until last March at the Museum of Iberian Art The Cigarralejo and now begins its tour.

This exhibition project is produced by the Ministry of Culture and Spokesperson, through muleño Museum, Documentation Centre of Archaeology and Heritage of the Autonomous University of Madrid and the Museum of the University of Murcia, and has also had several collaborators .

The photographs come mostly from the General Archive of the Region of Murcia, although there are also images provided by the German Archaeological Institute in Madrid and other family of Isasa Square.

Also, numerous personal items engineer as some cameras, notes on his archaeological work and travel notebooks is.

The general director of Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, said that "this exhibition wants to show to the public the importance of the Region of Square Emeterio figure in the world of archeology."

Therefore, he added, "this traveling exhibition can be seen at various points in the region and subsequently in other cities like Albacete and Madrid".

Maria Comas also stressed that "the cooperation between different institutions, organizations and associations is what has made this great project";

a sign that refers to the life of Emeterio Cuadrado, his job as an engineer and his work as an archaeologist, the site of El Cigarralejo, the creation of the museum and its legacy, as well as the Association of Friends of Archaeology in Madrid , an entity whose foundation participated and presided until his death.

The photographic legacy of Square Emeterio Diaz 'can be visited at the Archaeological Museum of Cehegín until late next May.

The opening hours of the museum is, from Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 13:30.

Square Emeterio Diaz (1907-2002) is considered one of the fathers of archeology.

Civil Engineer, Channels and Ports of profession, soon discovered his vocation for archeology, which led him to excavate and study for 40 years the Iberian complex Cigarralejo and to found the Association of Friends of Archaeology.

After studying in Madrid, he was sent to Cartagena as project manager in Taibilla Channel, although very young showed cultural concerns.

Subsequently he promoted as deputy mayor of Cartagena creating the Municipal Archaeological Museum.

His love of archeology grew with the discovery of several deposits during construction of the canal, and the Iberian complex Cigarralejo (village sanctuary and necropolis), discovered in 1945, devoted his life.

Along with the excavations of the necropolis, built even a small house which he called 'Hotel Necropol' and which passed specialists and professors from Spain, France, Portugal and Germany, as well as students of the University of Murcia interested in the topic .

The result of his research was the publication by the Superior Council for Scientific Research of the regalia of more than 300 tombs, whose findings have provided guidance for the work of the iberistas of later generations.

His research earned him international recognition and remain in force.
